Cash payment for services
For services, replace product lines with a clear job description. Example:
Garden maintenance — 2 hours Materials — mulch Total paid in cash — $145.00
A service receipt may also include the service date, job address or project reference.
Partial cash payments
If a customer gives only part of an amount due, do not write a receipt for the full amount. Record exactly what you received and identify the payment as a deposit or partial payment.
Example:
Invoice INV-1042 Amount received today: $300.00 Payment type: Partial payment Remaining balance: $700.00
Only show a remaining balance when the system can calculate it accurately.
Cash-receipt mistakes to avoid
- Leaving out what the payment was for
- Using an incorrect date
- Showing the wrong amount because change was involved
- Recording a full payment when it was only partial
- Reusing receipt numbers
- Creating a cash receipt for a transaction that did not occur
FAQ

Yes, as part of the records appropriate to your business. Digital history and PDF export make this easier.
What if cash was received for rent?
Use the rent receipt workflow because it can capture the property and rental period.
Can I generate a cash receipt on my phone?
Yes, if the mobile builder supports item entry, totals and PDF/PNG export.
